I'm guessing you probably read the Prism Pentad and Maztican books as well?
I read the DARK SUN novels during their original release. But I've been slowly re-reading the reprinted editions again, to refresh my fond memories of Athas.

I've never actually read the "Maztica" books, as it's not an area of the FORGOTTEN REALMS that I enjoyed reading about all that much. I probably should make the effort though, given that Doug Niles has always been one of my favourite old-time TSR authors.

The Maztica and Horde trilogies were probably my favourite Forgotten Realms books, because they actually take a look at some of the implications of magic on a historical(ish) event.  In some ways it's a fantasy/alternate history combo.

What I'm reading...

A Patriot's History of the United States: From Columbus's Great Discovery to the War on Terror
The Revolution: A Manifesto by Ron Paul
A Tiger by the Tail: The Keynesian Legacy of Inflation by Friedrich A. Von Hayek
Reassessing the Presidency: Rise of the Executive State and the Fall of Freedom by John V. Denson
Man, Economy, & State by Murray N. Rothbard

All together it's probably near 3000 pages...and some of it is quite painful

Just finished Black, starting Red shortly.  Both by Ted Dekker.

Just received "The Pirate King" by RA Salvatore. It's the second book in the final Drizzt trilogy and it's turning the world on it's head. It also helps explain why the newest rules of DnD have such a different set of magic rules.
A good read for anyone curious about the 'spellplague' but if you haven't read at least most of the previous Drizzt books, it's a little hard to follow.

Having said that, I really should be reading my military history textbook for class right now.

(And Trenchknife, should we be worrying about you? You seem to have a self-mutilation side  :D)

Black and Red by Ted Dekker.  Very interesting reads, those.

My reading taste is catholic, small "c" and I, like most of you early adopters, read rather a lot, I imagine--- the literary equivalent of unhinge-your-jaw-and-glut-your-maw. I tend to post these on the Unkindness in a somewhat futile effort to encourage conversation, but I did recently finish The Empire of Tea, which among other things traces the urbanization of civilization in the post-guild age to the popularization of the beverage. Before tea made boiling water in the production of potables, the safest things to drink were alcoholic, you see, which did not necessarily contribute to sober and businesslike behavior.

...And because I'm bored and a proponent of threadcromancy...

I'm currently reading "Telzey Amberdon", which is a collection of short stories and novellas by James H. Schmitz.  The Baen Free Library and the CDs that come in their hardcovers are wonderful, wonderful things.

The most recent WoT book?  How is that?  I've heard mixed reviews about the new author.

There is more happening more quickly since Brandon Sanderson took over.  I think he's doing a good job.

I honestly think that Robert Jordan started to have too wide a view after about volume 3 or 4.  He kept expanding the world and expanding the cast with it, but at some point it became exponential and there were too many threads needing updated at any one time to keep the story going at anything like a decent clip.

The last couple of books have started to braid these all together again to weave (if I may coin a term) a bigger tapestry and actually see the big picture rather than individual threads.

Oh yes, it outright states who killed Asmodean at one point.  ;)

Books 5-8 of WoT were a waste of paper and could have easily been compressed into two books.

That's what happens when the author's payed by the word, the book company's not worried as long as the money rolls in, and the editor's too weak to challenge the author to go for quality not quantity ;)

Sanderson seems to be doing a good job wrassling it all down.
