I wouldn't mind seeing both pre-paints and unpainted actually. Unpainted for those who enjoy modeling their ships and then have pre-paints available for those who just want to play the game. Much like Arcane Legions is offering through the Centurion Club.

I'm wondering if the ships will have stickers you cas apply to the base that would help identify them. That would make it much easier to keep track of several ships of the same class, or near sisters that don't have separate models.

Do what I do with my spaceborne battleships. Take an excel spreadsheet, set up the cells so they print out at the same size as the front of the hex base(or anywhere on the base you want to put it), give them a nice black outline so you know where to cut, type in a name for each ship in each cell, and print. Cut the tags apart, and glue to the hex base.

Here's one of my starships, so you know what I'm talking about:

It's what I'll be doing to my Levs, along with number decals maybe.

Jeez, could you have picked a more confusing ship to use?

Just so folks know, that's the front of the 'Ship. BattleTech's Avalon-class cruisers are...weird.

I didn't have many pictures with only one ship on it, and I wanted it to be up close so they could see the nameplate clearly.

Besides, of course that's the front! It's suspended between a pair of dirigibles, after all. ;)

I'll never understand how people get confused by Avalons, but that's a rant for another forum...

Back to the topic at hand...

What I mainly want from miniatures is a true, consistent scale through the line. Start now, so we don't have to worry about weirdness later.

Seconded, though I think that's already planned. Wasn't it said on the CBT forums that all the ships would be in 1/1200 scale?

From what I gather they're planning on using the same scale...and hopefully everything will be CAD produced so that it -keeps- that same scale. While I love the occasional wonky BT figure on my table and trying to explain it off as a manufacturing peculiarity, I think that when dealing with massive air fleets it just somehow feels much more important to me to have those massive flying ships all scale correctly. I do fully understand that smaller items (such as planes, balloons, zeppelins, etc) if they get added later by CGL might not be able to be quite to scale though just due to size considerations.

Yes, but it's also been said on the BattleTech forums that all the developers lie. Given that the developers there and the developers here... ;)

(It's also untrue, by the way. Except when it's funny.)

I would imagine the miniatures be non-prepainted. Most Prepaints look absolutely terrible and use inferior plastic to offset the extra costs in having them painted. Privateer Press's excellent Monsterpocalypse game has the highest end prepaints available, but even then, I would like to paint my ships since the speed methods used look bad for technological objects (due to angles and such making mistakes very visible).

Large polystyrene miniatures seem most likely and most logical. Just like the new polystyrene clan Battlemechs.

Also, with products like Army Painter out there, it's more possible than ever for even a novice painter to produce good-looking results.

not that I want to stifle debate ;) , but can we get out of the habit of referring everything to the CBT forums? Not singling the Colonel out ofc, just this is new game line, and we don't want to engender an "Us vs them" mentality of those CBT-converts and the folks coming from a different background.

on the minis question, I like counters myself, but I have a feeling I'll be outvoted ;)

- not a developer. I think. Not sure what my title is here  ;D
