The few remaining 3' guns of HML Courser's port battery kept up their futile barrage which the French 75mm broadside returned 3-fold.  The battered flank of the British vessel was starting to show plates of armour peeling off, spalling away into the sea below.
It seemed that whichever way Courser turned, Chasse hunted it down, turning within the faster vessel's circle and continually pounding away at the increasingly damaged ship.

Game effects

Courser at Chasse
1 gun, Green & Black
[2 6][6] 8< 15: No effect

Chasse at Courser
3 guns, Green Green Black
[1 3 12]-1[6] 15 < 16: No effect
[2 1 4]-1[6] reroll [1] 6 < 11: No effect
[2 1 7]-1[6] reroll [5] 9 < 15: No effect

GM Comment
I'm afraid my creative writing is beginning to run a little dry, so less drama this time.

Chasse at Courser
3 guns, Green Green Black
[1 3 12]-1[6] 15 = 15: Armour destroyed
[2 1 4]-1[6] reroll [1] 6 < 11: No effect
[2 1 7]-1[6] reroll [5] 9 < 15: No effect

1+3+12=16, -1 Trim = 15. Slot [6]: 15+1 Armor =16. I don't think that one's a hit. Please confirm.

Oops.  Miskeyed that when preparing my spreadsheet to track all this.  Slot 6 on the side of HML Courser does indeed have a base of 15, with +1 from Armour.  No damage.

Trust me, I understand this more than you might realize.  ;D

On, the deadly dance continued, the two ships spiraling round each other as each sought to find the final, killing blow.  HML Courser, leaving smudges of smoke from its burning port side, always in the lead trying somehow to shake the implacable hunter.  Chasse Faucon, stooping and stalling occasionally put off-balance by the punctured Trim Tanks, feeling the loss of its main turret.

Game effects
Courser only has 1 gun, but at range 4 it's Blue, just like the target:
[5 3][6] 8 < 14.

Chasse can only respond with the secondary turrets now, which are Green at this range, blue crew, black target
[4 5 3]-1[2]Reroll [4] 11 < 14
[3 2 6]-1[2]Reroll [3] 10 < 12

Intresting....both the fight and the book keeping mistakes made (Understandable, as this game is new)

Now, the question arises, would either one break off now, were this reality? Or would pride keep them whacking away at each other?

My personal record-keeping issues stem from checking the thread both at work during breaks and trying to remember things (when I don't have my printed and marked ship cards or spreadsheets) or from when I'm at home and have things right in front of me. I hate those occasional mistakes that can happen.  :-[

While some of the things Randall has mentioned would assist my unit, certainly, the map size is affecting things as well. In real life, had I been able to yank behind the French ship and hopefully hit an engine, I would then work on expanding range then bringing my longer range weapons to bear. As is, I've taken out his weapon with the longest bracket, so if I could get some distance I could slowly start working away from him and pull back to reinforcements without much concern to my heavily wounded sides...but I'd want to make sure I could get a good lead and only have to deal with a few rounds of shots against my Stern.

In the game? Eh...who knows. :P

Please don't take what I said as any type of critizism -- this is a brand new game, beging played in a new way (On this forum). There's bound to be some teething problems. I wouldn't mind seeing this same battle six months down the road -- same people involved, but with a better understanding of the rules, and using Commander and Captain's rules (Do these ships have topedoes?)

I assume there's going to be alittude rules -- maybe a token with an alittude level on it behind the ship?

*Shrug* Maybe there should be disengagement and withdrawl rules?

The dance turned deadly.  HML Courser brought her less damaged, Starboard broadside to bear, pounding the bow of the Chasse, and shattering another set of Tesla Coils in dazzling display of captive lightning released.  But still, this was not enough, as a solid hit sent deadly splinters of metal flying through the gundeck, scything through crewmen like earlier on the Port side.

Game effects
Courser -> Chasse
[1 2 6][5] 9 < 16
[4 6 6][3] Reroll [4] 16> 14: Trim tank/Tesla Coil Destroyed

Chasse -> Courser
[4 1 8]-1[3] 12 < 13
[4 2 11]-1[5] 16 = 16:  crew slot destroyed

HML Courser

Sky Captain Miller was lying on the floor, being tended by a corpsman.  Michaels looked around at his ruined vessel, "Vickers are not going to be happy," he thought, "but too many people have died here already."
"Helmsman," he called, "steer bearing 300, give us full speed as soon as possible, we're going home."
"Yes, sir," a rating replied.
"Rating?" Michaels thought, "What happened to the Helmsman?"  This defeat was going to be hard to live down, but there was no way, he was going to lose the entire vessel.

Chasse Faucon
"Captain, he's trying to escape," reported Brosse.
"Curse them!  If we still had the 100mm turret we could batter them for a fair while in a stern chase, but he's just a bit faster then us and the 47mm guns are already at the edge of their range."
"We'll need to return to port for repairs and more electoloid, sir."
"Hmmph, well, we still have the plunder, and I say we won this one.
"Oh, absolutely, sir."

Game effects
pianobar, noting that 2 dice just aren't enough to get through Light Cruiser armour, has called it here, and is leaving the field to protect his vessel.  Well done Lord Cameron!

GM notes

Well, thank you both, that was interesting and fun.
Have either of you (or any spectators) got any comments on either the way the game was run, the way the game was played, or the fiction?

Also, anyone interested in trying it again?  This time with bigger fleets?
I'm willing to run again, in a week. ;D

I actually lasted a bit longer than I expected to at 1st once he closed in.

I rather enjoyed the blind move and the firing effects being disclosed a round later, myself.
