You wouldn't think that a show about crab fishing would be a hit, would you? But somehow, these Captains and their crews have manged to do this. I never realized how dangerous Alaskian crab fishing was -- I'd heard it, but not until I actually saw the show did it sink home. You got to have have brass stones to go out and crab in an enviroment that can be at best be described as 'hostile'.
Captain Phil was one of those guys who managed to balance the toughness that is a necessity to that job with the love of a father. He came across as a plan spoken, salt of the earth guy who did the job not just for the money, but because he loved it and was good at it. He was an example that not all Americans work a 9 to 5 job in an office.
His sons have lost a father and the fans of the show have lost a friend....
