So, can leviathans travel in reverse...will there be a mechanic in future rules to allow this?

There are no plans for such rules in the Core Box. You never know for down the line, however...

I brought this up during playtesting and nothing came of it.
If you want to play really harsh, ram an opponent bow first to the edge of the map and they become stuck or auto-destroyed without rolling maps. (this was the case I came up with)

I was figuring on a house rule to deal with it.  One wouldn't want to be pinned against a mountain for lack of a reversable drive.  Spend one turn stopped to represent the effort needed to reverse a ship, then move backward at a greatly reduced rate.

From an in-universe perspective, the arrangement of intakes & ducted fans makes speedy reverse travel difficult. They've got enough capability to 'brake', and dock handily. Modern-day airplanes have effective thrust reversers, but rarely use them to move backwards.

Ah, but that's because aircraft can't hover. If the Leviathan can reverse thrust from velocity 12 to 0 in a turn, they really should be able to move in at least slow reverse.  :-\

Like gnoodlemeier said:

The ship, in order to reverse, must stay in the same hex(es) for on turn, then can back up at 1/2 forward speed (Rounding down).

Or, since it isn't easy to stop a mass that quickly, the Lev takes three turns to stop and reverse
Turn 1: the Lev 'coasts' forward 1/2 its regular movement,
Turn 2: Comes to a stop
Turn 3: starts moving backwards

There could be a "Emergancy reverse" In which the ship stops and backs up in the same ture, but there should be some sort of roll to reflect the harshness of this on the engine (player must make a breech roll against the engines with a certain set of dice)

Then this would presumably apply to all ships move then? You couldn't go from velocity 12 to 0 the next turn? I actually like that idea, one would have to think ahead a bit.

But rolling maps is really the best way to go for map edges
