Bought some battletech minis
« on: December 18, 2011, 11:48:24 AM »
I played the game a few times and it is fun with just play the mechs alone.

Battletech has exploded in my area popular in 3 game shops with games just about everyday of the week.

90 percent of the players are former players way back.

Anyways, some of the mechs I bought... older than I am.

 :-X

Kind of creepy.

Wait, which is older then you? The designs, or the actual miniatures?

There aren't any Battletech figures older than me.  The game itself isn't older than me.  I now officially feel old.

The miniatures.

not all of them, just some of them.

Battletech's an old game, it dates back to 1985, so yeah, I guess a lot of the stuff will be older than some players (which is unfortunately not my case)... But its good to see it go some sort of revival. Great game, that's the one I've been playing the longest.  =|9)

When there are adult players that I could be their father you can tell it's an old game.

And that I'm old...

It's funny, I came back to Battletech via Leviathans myself, played when I was about 16 and then stopped.

When I was trying to find maps I could use to demo Lev, I got some old BT maps out - and then I bought more than a battalion of mechs ...

I only wish they came prepainted - now I have to learn to paint as well. It's great to see how many people seem to play now. The store that's about to become my new fire base already carries all the BT and seems to be happy to get an active Agent now to promote it more.

I can smell a lot of hex goodness coming..

I would settle for plastic miniatures.

Things are so damn heavy. Paint chips easily no matter what primer or sealer you put on them.

I am learning how to make molds from metal minis and injecting resin into them.

Thus far quite a success. A bit of a learning curve but once you get the technique down you can make perfect resin copies of mechs.

It's more time consuming but I can produce multiple mechs with one mold and don't have to feel guilty about making a destroyed mech.

interesting approach, but isn't that quite expensive? Also I have to admit I like the heft of the metal minis, going so far as to order the hex bases with them.

I got ahold of a 25th Anniversary Boxed Set a few days ago and started cleaning and painting those minis - and I have to say they are cheap and all but the metal ones are at least for me easier to work with.

Never understood the whole "I like the weight of the minis" approach.

When playing a game you hold it for about... 5 seconds?

When transporting minis, carrying a big transport bag filled with plastic minis is great.

big bag filled with metal... not so great.

It's hard to explain, but yes, its a haptic stimulus.

It somehow feels - well - bigger? Suited to big, bad fighting Robots...

And with metal minis, you can play outdoors on sunny days...  ;D
I lust say I too prefer metal, though the plastech Thors & Lokis are very nice.

I think you might love the metal minis a bit too much foxbat. XD

My own preference is with plastic. i'm far too clumsy for metal minis, though I do own some from varying ranges. The only metal I don't really mind is my micro armor.
