I played RL: Leviathan Rollcall?
« on: February 08, 2010, 11:21:15 AM »
Just in case anyone else wants to own up to doing this.

The Leviathans Initiative is reminiscent of Leviathan, as well as the turn arc rules.

*Raises Hand* I still think the Shiva is one of the prettiest warships ever created.

"O Columbia! the gem of the ocean,
The home of the brave and the free,
The shrine of each patriot's devotion,
A world offers homage to thee"

You do know that there's discussions about what can be done with that prettiness on the Yahoo Renleg group?

If the Shiva you speak of is the one I remember, there's a guy on Shapeways.com making and selling minis in multiple sizes.
...because that battleship's...well...FLYING.

Sorry,

RL as in Renegade Legion, rather than Real Life.

In that case I played Renegade Legion about 14 years ago...at a convention in Texas.  Found it interesting but not enough to suck me away from Battletech.

I still own "Interceptor" ... never got into the other games. I do have the novel "Damned if you do ...", and think the grav tanks look marvellous.

Despite what many people think of Far Country, I believe that everything Peter L Rice wrote for FASA was great, but the Centurion ones were the best of that.

Damned if we Do, followed by Frost Death let you get a bit of an idea into the mindset of the RL and TOG.

I never could find the Renegade Legion novels. It didn't help that FASA didn't print a whole lot of copies.

...and anyone who trash-talks Rice is free to meet me at dawn. Pistols will be provided. I liked Far Country. ;)

Peter L Rice had a great ability to portray aliens as, well, alien, rather than humans in funny suits.  Also the plotting in Far Country was superior to some of the other books getting published for BT at the time.

I believe that I am lucky to be in possession of all of the RL books: all three PLR (Monsoon is the third) and the Bill Keith one.

Mostly that's b/c I think yer a tad unbalanced.  :P

Actually, as a stand alone book, Far Country wasn't bad.  Put in with the rest of Battletech fiction...it went off its rocker a bit.

It's the giant warships in space game for Renegade Legion.

Destroyers are 1 hex
Frigates are 2 hexes
Cruisers are 3 hexes
Battleships are 4 hexes

It worked with velocity and stuff, had broadsides, missile salvos and whopping massive bow mounted accelerator cannons.

You also had fighter squadrons (and bigger).

Each ship had to move forward at least its length before it was allowed to turn.

The damage system was ablative armour.

That's the main points
