I don't think store listing mean much.

I have it on pre-order at my FLGS and their distributor still says Sept 2011.

You didn't read what I said.  "their distributor still says"  ie the same type source. 

My guess is it will be a substantial amount of time till we see a physical product.  Operative word being "guess".

Some distributors will give a later date when the actual release date is uncertain to keep from being bugged about why it hasn't shipped yet.  This isn't certain either, I've checked a few online stores and no one has a pre-order up.

The primary distributor my FLGS uses has allowed pre-orders.  But that doesn't mean things are in stone when they allow pre-orders, I've seen items in the past disappear from the universe after a a bit of hype.  Not that I think this would happen in this case.  I just don't put much stock in release dates unless the information is direct from the source.  And I don't believe Catalyst has actually put out a street date yet, unless I missed it.

what I gathered over on the Battletech forums..)

Because the chinese printing company didn´t want to print the flags of Taiwan
shown in the rulebook, so it had to be changed.

Honestly...I would rather hear something concrete from Randall et al, then here rumours.
Of course, given that what we are seeing now is stuff being done for the future already, and not more stuff relating
to the core rules, I *THINK* we can say it is a good sign?

what happened to all the talk about the game is done, just needs to ship from the manufacturer?  I think it's time for some official comment from someone with more information than "soon" or "we want it to happen soon too" ... Without some word, I'm going to take the minis out of the display at my store because when people ask me about when the game is coming, all I can say is "who knows?"
