Seeming imbalance?
« on: September 23, 2011, 10:06:33 PM »
Hi,

after having played a couple games (10+) with ALL rules (bracketing and saturation fire etc), it seems that the better British guns and armor seem to be only slightly better than the French, but due to smaller number and varying calibers (and the fact that you cannot bracket guns of different caliber) they often only get limited use out of bracket fire - while the French can use that aplenty. That issue renders the bigger British guns effectively smaller (and the slightly longer range isn't really making up for the french speed advantage per turn being often more than the average gun range advantage on the Brits=.

I know you play tested the hell out of the game so you would have noticed the issue (like the effective armor on larger ships getting smaller with increasing ship size due to location dice ramping up faster than the armor does with size) if it exists. So it seems I am overseeing an important aspect of british strategy - can you give us a hint what it is?

I can easily see how the French can win a battle - but how can the Brits? Is it missing rules (or rule changes that did not yet make it through)? Will the final Stats on ships be different from the ones we saw at GenCon and in the PDFs?

(Add-on question: Is it deliberate that Faucon class cruisers have the incoming/location die profile of a type 1?)
