A Camospecs Artist take on Levs
« on: August 21, 2011, 12:30:19 PM »
I wanted to see how easily the prepaints would allow for a little restyling.

Here are a couple of Battleships. The French ship was painted in overall medium Grey and the British Leviathan got a darker shade. I have included a comparison shot of the British alongside a prepainted cousin.

Overall I found the minis easy to work with and the lines and details pleasing and simple.

Enjoy!

I actually thought the ships would come out looking like that and not have that silery-look to them.

Great work on details and weathering.

On the french ships would it be possible to cut through the bottom part so you can actually see through?

Any tips on how to represent a wrack? Or combat damage - my French battleship came two steering gears short (one in the front, one in the back...)

Well, I could do a tutorial, or since I think I have a few spares, I could mail them to you.

Huh. Wonder if there's any way to gloss the windows a bit so that they shine.

Easily. Many paint brands sell a brush-on clear varnish that you could just dab into the windows once everything else was finished. I use stuff like that for my battletech minis, on glass cockpits and the lenses of energy weapons.
...because that battleship's...well...FLYING.

Future Floor Wax works great as a clear gloss.

Pledge with Future Shine, is what it's called now, and is basically a clear gloss acrylic.

Its also great for mixing and diluting acrylic paints since it doesnt change the consistency too much thanks to the transparent acrylic filler.
