Leviathans at GenCon 2011!
« on: August 04, 2011, 05:59:01 PM »
Well, 5 boses anyway, not the 200 planned (see here for that whole sorry saga. But present nonetheless - minis, flight stands, maps, boxes and all!

(Thanks to @GamingSherpa for the twitpic!)

As well, the "maxis" - the 2' long French Grennouille class and the 4' long British Leviathan class - in all their glory:

And the man, and the Beard, without whom none of this would be possible:

(thanks to Sulla for those pics).

It's been a long voyage; there've been times we've been down to burning coal-dust. But the lights of safe harbour are gleaming in the distance through the dusk, and we'll be in port - and on sale! - very soon. Thank you all so much for your interest and support.

Cheers,

W.

Looks amazing! One question, are the French and British ships the same color? That might make it hard for newbies to tell their side's ships apart.

Those are fantastic. Is that what they will look like out of the box?

And is that French battleship the one I will be getting for my prize?  ;D

It seems to me the colors of the decks, of the chimneys, and of the hulls are subtly different : the french ships have yellowish brown decks, black chimneys, and grey silver hulls, while the british ships have pale brown decks, grey chimneys and some kind of azure-silver hulls. It makes a clear difference when you look at them from the top. Look at the first picture : when you get used to it, you can clearly tell apart the british at the right (clearer all around) from the french at the left (darker, with more contrast).

I, for one, am in love with those prepainted figs. If this is the final result we'll get in our boxes, I'm sold. And the designs of the ships from both fleets look awesome.

I see now. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

For me, I just look for the stabilizer wings on the forward section of the hull.  All the french ships seem to have them.

Those vessels look absolutely amazing! I'm in love with the clear bases- do they separate from the actual ships for easier stowing in the box?

I hope that we keep seeing more photos of the event and the whole box! I'm looking forward to getting to play with these in the next demo!
Also: I've been keeping up with the news recently but the pictures raise a question I've asked before; Are the Hex Maps going to retain their numbers and will they have a purpose in the expanded rule set?

The numbers on the grinder map are because we borrowed them from a couple guy who were at the con doing battletech stuff, wildchildgaming.com

They were very gracious and lent us Leviathans folks a couple sizeable maps for the grinder so we could maximize the amount of people we'd have on map.  You'll notice that some of the maps we played on were in fact BattleTech maps proper.  We did that out of necessity and luckily our hex bases are the exact size to fit the BT maps.  Not sure if there will be numbers on the finalized maps, that's probably a question WorkTroll could answer?

it would be great if we could have numbers - for PBM or just puzzles - it would be useful

Ah, thank you for the answer to that! And that's awesome that people at the con were nice enough to bring the maps over.

I don't know if the numbers would affect gameplay overall- I only say this based off the maps in the downloadable demo being blank. Based on the those rules what little I've gathered from others on how the expanded rules work, I don't know if it will need to come into play. I think I would also be cool, but I'll wait to hear about the final product when it's out.

Yes, the base, pole and ship can be separated.
