Rules from Origins
« on: July 05, 2011, 10:25:20 PM »
If this question is not suppose to be asked then I'll delete this post, so here it goes...
Does anyone remember the rules we used at Origins for Bracket Fire, Repair, and Saturation Fire? Torpedo (rocket?) rules would be nice but the other rules really gave the game more depth. If I knew the rules we were using during the Leviathans Grinder were not in the PDF's I would have wrote them down. I'm pretty let down that they are not in any of the PDF's...anyway, I have some people at my local shop that want to try out the game, but I think turrets (covered in one of the PDF's), bracket fire, and repair are essential to the game.

The rules we used from Origins are found in the Commander's Manual in the upcoming Leviathans Boxed Set, so I'm not entirely sure they can be shared across a public forum yet (with the exception of the Turret rules, which I KNOW have been posted/paraphrased before).

Turrets (short version):  A gun slot with a white "T" is a turret mount.  A bow-mounted turret can fire into either the port, starboard, or bow arcs (but only one of those arcs) in any given turn.  The location of the gun mount does not change for range and LoS purposes.  A stern turret uses the same rules as a bow turret, but replace the world "bow" with "stern".

PLEASE do.

I'm pretty sure some official person will back me up when I say: "The rules are Creative commons, and you didn't sign an NDA [Did you?], feel free."

Of course, that's just me being greedy, what with not being able to get across the Atlantic to Origins or Gencon.

I seen the turret rules in the PDF's, but I was still shocked not to see the other rules since the symbols for bracket fire and saturation fire are shown on the ship cards (along with turrets)
I did find this forum post about some of the rules
http://forums.monstersinthesky.com/index.php?topic=604.0
but from what I remember the bracket and saturation fire rules worked differently. I don't want to say too much since I don't remember it all entirely so it will just be spreading rumors at that point.

Also, I heard that there will be rules for elevation and the torpedo rules were still in play test at Origins, but they must have finalized them shorty afterwards since the book went to the printer already, so there will be a lot more depth to the game beyond what the pdf's have shown. I can't wait for the box set; fingers crossed for GenCon.

As a playtester, I can say that they do function differently in detail. What I came up with was a way to match that on a larger scale while working for simplification.
