What do YOU want in a forum?
« on: February 03, 2010, 11:35:19 AM »
This forum is all about the community. So right out of the gate I want to tap the community for your ideas on how to improve this forum. What you like, what you don't like, what's missing, and so on. Even if the idea seems totally wild, post it. You never know.

Thanks!

Randall

Sandwiches!

...now for a real answer: how about some clarity about what the policies are going to be for the official interaction sub-forum?  Obviously, since this is a creative commons-licensed product, the CGL/fan interaction won't necessarily be as formal as it has to be at CBT.com.  But I think it might help those of us "early adopter" fans to know when we're getting an official answer versus when we're just talking shop on the internet with CGL staff.

Thanks!

That's a good question. I'll discuss this with the Sky Captains and generates that answer.

Thanks!

As ElectronJon stated, an official responses/rules clarification area or at least some way of knowing when we're getting game rules
Design submissions
Scenario submissions
Possibly a fan fiction area?

Lets be trendy and have our own twitter section. We can post allnthe worthless stuff we are doing so people can read it.  :o

Seriously;

forum for bugs and suggestions
house rules (not a fan of it, but others may be)
custom units and mods whether or not the game is prepainted, people will still paint them regardless.

I think fan fiction, etc., would be good for sub-sections of the Creative Commons area. Speaking of which, a link to said Creative Commons license would be great as a sticky in that area.

Fan Fiction would be a great start, as would (when the game comes out) a blow by blow summary of conflicts. Other suggestions include.

  • Community developed rules
  • Maps and boards sections (Downloads/Uploads)
  • fanfic
  • Tutorials and How-to-play
  • Scenario design and ideas
  • Find a player
  • Models and Miniatures (Custom paint, how-to-paint, etc)
Just a couple of ideas.

Mainly, I'd like to see sections for the following:

- Custom Scenarios
- Custom Ships / Rules
- Miniature Painting (Check out my fleet)

Also,  many of these things listed here and in the other posts will be posted on BoardGameGeek.com.  Perhaps a link to these forums from the BGG Leviathans page would be a good way to direct some traffic here and perhaps get more eyeballs on this wonderful game.

One thing I would like, is a small forum in the "Off-topic" section labeled "Other Catalyst Game Labs Games." I love CGL and the work they
do, and think that some discussions in another forum on the other games, just like how there is usually some discussion on the CBT forums
on Leviathans, Shadowrun, and, for a while Eclipse Phase and Cthulhu Tech, helps cross-polinate the games, drawing people to check out the
other game systems, thus making Catalyst even more money! ;)

Also, when we have all the factions: Factional Sub-Forums!

At the very least, a "battle reports" sub-forum would be - in addition to what's already been suggested - quite nifty.

I want bigger Avatar images, but that's a minor issue.  Is there going to be an official policy on .sig lengths and image postings?

An Artwork forum might not be a bad idea, either for fanwork or for period 'inspirational' images.

Sig lengths are kept at 300 characters or less.  That makes it kind of hard to overflow a line limit unless you're just being obnoxious about it.  I think my sig only has about 40 characters to play with, so I'm going to have to get rid of something if ravehnhuhrxt decides to make userbars for this forum.

I love the "Remove Post" feature here.  It's perfect for removing stuff you posted in the wrong spot.

I really wouldn't mind a spellchecker to help not look like an idiot when trying to type some of the words that don't sound like they're spelled.

Is there a button that would allow me to read all the unread posts across the entire forum, not just the subforums?

[Edit] ...never mind, I found it!
