Hi guys,

My name is Rodolphe, I'm 35 years old and I'm French.
I've been a BATTLETECH Fan for a long time and I can just come to discover LEVIATHANS.
I love steampunk, especially 'Castle Falkenstein' universe (RPG).

Just a small note concerning the name of the French Navy : "Fleet de Volée"
In french, it makes no sense.

Some translations :
Navy : Marine in french
Fleet : Flotte in french

Comparatively with the other nations, I feel those appellations suit better :

"Aéromarine Nationale"
"Marine Nationale" is the official appellation (National Navy), "Aéromarine" is a neologism that means 'air navy'
It is particularly appropriate if the Sky Navy is independent from the wet Navy.

"Flotte Aérienne Française"
It's another possibility but it implies that the Sky Navy sky is attached to the wet Navy.

I'm about to read the PDF files which are available. If you are interested, I could report you some mistranslations (ie : ranks, etc.) as I served in the French Navy.

Whatever, thanks for your great job.  ;)

You may want to post this in the General Discussion area, I'm not sure if the right people will see your comments in this thread.   ;)

I'd be quite interested in a Royal New Zealand Navy userbar.  I realize the RNZN wasn't founded until 1912, and even then not as a fully independent navy until 1940, but I find myself thinking that the British government might have been more supportive of NZ's construction of vessels of their own in a world where Australia had a not-so-friendly divorce from the Empire.  Historically, after all, HMS New Zealand was built by the government of New Zealand in 1909 to help bail Great Britain out from an escalating military situation.  Sound like any scenario we might know?  To quote Wikipedia, (granted not the best source, but it sums up the issue pretty well), "In 1909 Great Britain was having a naval and political crisis; Germany had expanded her naval programme and was speeding up the building of ships of all classes. On 22 March 1909 the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Sir Joseph Ward, made an offer to fund 'one first-class battleship, and if need be, two' as a gift to the Royal Navy. This offer was accepted by the British Government and the battlecruiser HMS New Zealand was built by Fairfield for £1,783,190."

Historically these were commissioned into the Royal Navy and brought up North for the preparation of the coming war in Europe.  Given that, in the Leviathans timeline, the possibility exists of an angry Australia making trouble for His Majesty's Empire on the southern side of the planet, and cozying up to Germany, I would not be surprised if the New Zealanders might well have built more than just the 'one or two', and I highly doubt that the Imperial government would have taken them up north unless they absolutely had to.  So, do you think I've justified the early existence of the RNZN?

I'm afraid the RNZN is in the same situation as the RCN.  Neither one existed in 1910, or if they did they were part of the RN and therefore flew the same Naval Ensign.

Now if the PTB decided that New Zealand went independent with Australia, then we have something to work with.

Swedish Skyfleet

in swedish this would be something like

flygMarinen (Air navy) or flygFlottan (Air fleet)

i think.
the Air Force is flygvapnet, or roughly "air weapon force"
the navy is Marinen
fleet is Flottan.
now, their navy, currently, is divided between the flottan (the submarine and surface forces), and the Amfibiekåren, or Amphibious corps. which is a littorial and naval infantry force.

keep in mind though, this is the current names. don't know what the 1910 ones were. i bet the navy was the same though.

been working on a game book set in future sweden, so i've done my best to learn their terminology.

I'm not sure how similar Norwegian and Swedish are, but the Norwegian fleet uses, Kongelig Luftflåte or Kongelig Himmelflåte, so maybe something similar in Swedish?

thats what..royal air fleet?

in swedish (keep in mind, this is the 'babelfish' style translation) - Kunglig LuftFlotten

looking at wikipedia, the navy in 1910 was Kungliga Flottan, or 'royal navy', so...Kungliga Luftflottan?  Royal Air navy?

It would be similar to the one I have. I use the Norwegian fleet as my name for the smaller half of the Scandanavia Union
