Do the five Vigilants covering the Atlantic coast cover the Gulf Coast as well or is that coastline unworthy of USCG Levs?

Of those five two do cover the gulf coast.

Now that I think about it, these vessels probably look substantially different from typical leviathans. For one thing, they'd pretty much need large cargo bays, something your run of the mill flying warship lacks. (Wow, never thought I'd type that sentence...) Luckily, they can skimp on the armor and armament.

Anyone got Doug Chaffee's email? ;D

They have more hatches that's a certainty also fewer gunners since they have fewer guns probably at most two 6inch and probably four 3inch guns. The decks are a lot less cluttered as well.  Until we see what a US Aircrusier looks like weapons wise the weapons fit is pure conjecture. On the upside fewerguns mean smaller magazines.

I could also see a dedicated Marine presence as possible.  Gotta have some people to handle security if you have to stop a ship at sea.  Ventral hatches with door guns; maybe even an internal Brig.

Marines might happen they might not there really is not a lot of data available as of yet but I would be fairly certain the ships Master At Arms probably has an oversized department at minimum. Posse commitaitus still applies on the high seas so unless there was a change no Marines. (Note: In the states the military has limited police powers save on thier installations.) A coast guardsman is outside the conventional chain of command due to the service's mission of enforcing the law of the sea and customs law. There are also humanitarian missions that they also preform (disaster relief, search and rescue). Just as importantly they also enfoce maritime saftey and maintain all navigation aids (Buoys, lighthouses). During time of war however marines in small numbers mught be assigned to augment prize crews etc.

Since when did Posse commitaitus EVER apply to the high sees?  That's specifically where the military venue IS.

I'm land forces by trade and don't know for sure how posse commitatius would/would not apply vis a vis the Coast Guard but I will double check. I do know that land forces have restrictions fortunatley this is for a fictional setting and adjustments can be made. I do know that the USMC in the early 20th century was also very small so Marines are in short supply. That aside without going too much into real life the lines have blurred a little in recent years too. I'll check into it if and see if there is precedent for Marine detachments on Cutters and go from there.  Thanks for the comment!

*Other notes* The "air arm" of the Coast Guard is rather small and there is a far larger "wet" fleet as well as numerous shore installations. These shore installations consist of light houses and beach stations for motor life boats. The waterborne assets are everything from motorized life boats to large seagoing bouy tenders.

In my research the size of USCG vessels varies wildly during the era in question. The USCG website has some nice images from all era of it's existence.
