I've looked everywhere, and haven't been able to find...
« on: September 15, 2010, 05:28:32 PM »
What is the current state of the Ottoman Empire?  I realize that historically they were coming to the beginning of their end in 1910, but Sultan Abdülhamid II was a crafty one, who had kept the other nations of Europe at each other's throats in reference to the mounting debt of his own empire.  Were I him, and had I Leviathans available in the technological structure of the world, I'd probably have reached towards them as yet another plank to use to hold up my crumbling state.  I can only imagine what the Italo-Turkish War would have looked like with Leviathans in the sky, and with other nations (read: France, Germany, and Great Britain) contributing what sneaky support they could to the various sides.

Granted, historically, that war was a minor event, as the Turks basically rolled over and took it.  I'm thinking that an Abdülhamid II with access to leviathan tech, however, would have held much more strongly, or at least have given a much better fight.  Given that structure, and given the different alliances we see in the Leviathan world, I could even see this touching off World War One a few years early....

The Ottomans are classed as one of the Minor Air Powers, and as such there's not been a lot released about them so far. Rest assured, however, they did get a lovely picture in the full Universe Primer all to themselves ;)

I'd also like to point out that the Minor Air Powers are, despite their size, still well favoured by the dev team. Expect to see clashes over places like Manila, the Andes, and the Bosphorous ...
