1940's era leviathan?
« on: May 15, 2010, 11:40:39 PM »
This http://malaveldt.deviantart.com/art/Sky-Destroyer-Concept-60251784 has been on my favs for a long while now and I got thinking does it look like a Levathan to anyone else.

I know no tanks, and such but given that there is 30 years between the 40's and the current Levathans I think it fits.

I can see the "tanks" being behind the rows of armor and the thrusters on back as newer airscrews . The guns do look small however

Anyhow thought I would share.

this is a MODERN ERA Leviathan missile destroyer, not from the 40's! Of course guns are small (and rapid fire): who needs them, but for self protection, with all the Harpoons and Tomahawks flying? :D

I can see that, I though 40's due to the u-boat like shape.  And  the inner layout looked closer to 40's style then modern

http://malaveldt.deviantart.com/art/Sky-Destroyer-Gunner-Station-60253204?q=gallery%3AMalaveldt%2F759639&qo=89 and http://malaveldt.deviantart.com/art/Sky-Destroyer-Interior-Details-60253053?q=gallery%3AMalaveldt%2F759639&qo=90

To me it looks at most 60's or 70's and not modern{as in the last 15 years or so} as the shape is wrong

Found this one http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff24/cursedcross/SpaceCraft/yamato_style_concept.jpg

Which to me looks closer if not totally right for a modern leviathane

Have you encountered Space Battleship Yamato (aka Star Blazers) before? The reason the Yamato (Argo in the Americanised version) looks like a battleship is ... it is in fact the WW2 battleship Yamato, found on the dried ocean bed and fitted out with space drives, etc ;)

I have my own strong ideas on how 1930s Levs will look - heck, wait until you see the followon WW1 battleships that haven't been shown yet ;) Levs have strong similarities to 1930s tanks in the real world - loaded with good ideas, but no-one's actually used them properly ...

Yes I knew what it was, but still was inspirational. I can see the tanks going inward and jet engines being mounted on the things.

After all who doesn't like airships :)

I'm waiting for supplementary lift props so I can make the Iron Vulture from Tailspin. :D

Can't have an alternate universe without airships ;) And as for jet engines ... they're refining multiple-blade ducted fans at the moment. See what the Italians were doing in the 1930s from that base. Only issue is, the early turbofans were kinda poor at low airspeeds. Definitely would love the game to evolve over that period, though!

I am curious.  How is the in-game timeline going to advance relative to the real world?  2-1, 3-1, 5-1?  Whenever you feel like it?

Can we have flying tanks?

Now that would be awesome! I demand Tailspin style air pirates!

We need the timeline to progress to the point we have fighters, first. :D

Let's get the box out first!  :)

I don't see why.  Everyone's always encouraging people to think outwith the box.  We're just taking it further and thinking without the box.

I would think Crimson Skies would work better for such a setting? That was such a fun game...I think it sucks that it fell by the wayside with the FASA collapse.

I have three Leviathan models almost finished, all built using the Airfix 1/600th HMS Warspite, which I've called the "Warspout".

All are quite modified, with the  propulsion system being aether screws of various sizes, all pod mounted on the side.

Version one is of a Battle of Britain H.M.L. Warspout in brown and Green Battle Of Britain colours (circa 1940) based south of Windsor, to protect the Royal Family and London.

Version 2 is of the Invasion Of Japan in 1946.

Version three is a non-British example, with WS at the end of its days, rusting, but defending Israel on the northern borders in 1956.

I'll post photos soon.
