« on: February 03, 2010, 07:32:48 PM »
I didnt see this mentioned anywhere else on these forums so apologies if this has already been answered, but do we know how many factions there will be at release? and what nations would they be?

I believe that only the French and the British will have ships when the game is launched, but other major factions are the Germans, Russians, Americans, Italians, Austro-Hungarians, and Japanese.

Don't forget the minor air powers - the Scandanavian Union, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Turkey, Greece, etc.

True, they won't be present as minis in the intro box, but our plans for the game universe most definitely include these guys, who might end up much more important than size would suggest.

If you can find it there is a really good book that covers some data on the "other" powers in this period. "Sea Power" by John Batchelor. the bonus is the gorgeous interior art.
"My other car is a cutter." "Semper Paratus"

I'm waiting for the Canadians.

Historically the Canadian Navy wasn't all that hot in 1910 and Canada was still a subject of the British Empire. I guess it would be the same in the Leviathans universe.

I'm interested in seeing how the Russians are going to deal with China with the defeat of the Japanese Empire. Will we see a Chinese republic in 1911 or is the Qing Empire going to be continually crushed by European imperialism into the next years of the 20th century?

Maybe Leviathans will allow Canada to declare its independence in a rather more *ahem* aggressive way?

Can we have flying tanks?

That removes a lot of the flavor, in my opinion. Note that the various great empires still existed at this time, in one form or another. The map should make it all clear.

Special Sneak Peck: Swiss factional abilities!

Pro: The Swiss make the finest Leviathans in the world, and their crews are the most highly-skilled. Anytime a Swiss Leviathan makes a roll, it may add a DBlack to increase the chance of that roll succeeding.

Con: Swiss Leviathans may not attack, be attacked, or move.

I can't forget about the Australian Federation. We don't know what its air fleet may look like or whether it has received military assistance from Germany, but it may be a potential power in the Pacific.
