I'm going to start playing DW in an escalation league. I have bought the core rulebook and am wading through it. They have some cool game mechanics, but the production quality of their books does not equal Leviathans (or any CGL game) - in my opinion. They've made several typos in their book including the last name of one of the rules writers in the Acknowledgements section - d'oh!
The quality of their fluff remains to be seen. It's intriguing so far, but I think they did a pretty bad job with the Japanese. I was an East Asian studies major and took Chinese and Japanese so when I see publishers use simplified Chinese characters in place of the traditional characters which the Japanese still use (although slightly modified in some instances) I wince (see page 15 of the core rulebook). I've looked up the characters in both traditional form, reading both backwards and forwards and the closest I have come up with is the name of a Pachinko manufacturer in Aichi prefecture.
I had a similar reaction when I saw a class of destroyers referred to as "Yurgi class" which I had hoped was a typo on the website. It wasn't. It's in the core rulebooks for all eternity...
Almost very Japanese consonant (with very, very few exceptions) is followed by a vowel. So the word "Yurgi"? It doesn't exist nor could it in the modern Japanese tongue. I don't say this to be pedantic merely to point out that I have not found similar flaws in the Leviathans discussion of the Japanese navy so far.
