Introduction thread
« on: February 03, 2010, 05:12:39 PM »
So... I guessed it woul be nice to have a topic where you could introduce yourself so that everybody at least knows partially who heßs dealiung with.

Hi there, I`m KaLeu.
That´s short for "Kapitänsleutnant" which is a german rank. Now you can probably guess at my nationality  ;) Yeah, right, I´m from germany. In fact I´m living in the small german city of Kiel which once was (and at least to a part still is) a major shipyard and port for the german navy (or, as we call it: "Marine").
I´m here doing my Bachelor in Political Science and Scandinavian Literature.
In my free time I´m playing lots of different pen and paper games and a few tabletops (especially BattleTech, which got me here in the first place). And actually I´m quite interested in the timeperiod that Leviathans! uses.

Other nicknames I frequently use include isatlas and Korsar.

KaLeu signing out.

Hi! I'm Worktroll by any other name, aka Konteradmiral, K.u.K. And to some extent, the game is my fault ;)

Hello, I'm Blackbrunswicker, or Jason as my parents christened me. I reside in Connecticut and am a life long New Englander. Aside from gaming I enjoy anime and history. I believe root beer is mankind's greatest achievement.

Hey all, if you're coming over from the BattleTech forums, then I need no introduction.

But for those new to Catalyst, hi! I'm ColBosch (short for "Colonel"). I'm a Maine native, raised in Connecticut, currently residing in California. I've been everywhere and done everything...and if I haven't, then I can probably make up a convincing story on the spot.

I was also a contributor to GURPS Steam-Tech and have been involved with Leviathans since before the beginning, which goes to show how much I dig steampunk in general and giant flying ships in particular.

Hi, i'm Machiavel,  a fellow student in political science, and i'm... french  ;D, from Nice.  I've been following the website for some time and i really liked the steampunk background, and the pdf rules are just great (for now^^).
In the gaming area I played a bunch of tabletop games, but only Epic Armageddon recently (the only one really good so far), so Leviathans is a new hope  ;).

Machiavel, nice to see someone from La Belle France aboard!

One of the big historical changes in the Levs universe was to make the French the main antagonist for the British. Not a decision taken lightly; on one side it makes us immediately 'different', but open to charges of being excessively a-historical. It's been rather fun making minor adjustments here & there to 'pump up the volume' a little for your side; I know that some of the writers have really gotten on-side.

I can't guarantee that any side - French, Russia, Germany, or England, etc - won't be portrayed as villains at some point. But I do commit to work as hard as I can to make sure no-one's portrayed as stupid villains ;)

Hello all, I'm Joseph. I hail from Washington state in the US, and go by "pianobar" on the BattleTech forums.

While I primarily play BT, other board & war games, as well as electronic games...I'm greatly impressed with the potential for Leviathans and everything I've seen so far to date. I also like excel and statistics, but that's a slightly different topic. ;) I've picked up all the .PDFs as they're released and am continuing to work at getting the word out about Leviathans to all my co-workers and friends. I managed to see one of the Leviathans proof minis at GenCon and just can't wait for those to be released in full, it's really going to be a great game I think.

@worktroll

;D, in my opinion really nothing to worry about things like that, it's just a game, maybe with an historic inspired background, but just a game involving various sides and ennemies, nothing but normal stuff.
Actually in the levs fictions i'm hoping to get some plausible/realistic subjective point of views, like a british officer cursing "those bloody frog-eaters", at least.  :)
By the way if you need some reviews on the french terms you're using I would be happy to help.

Hi all, I'm Leaderoforcs, or just Loo for short (don't strain yourself.  All of the obvious jokes have been made).  I'm from East Kansas, just north of Kansas City.  This is the first actual steampunk game I've been interested in (although, due to money issues, I might not actually be able to play any, just blather away to other people about it); most of the stuff I play is Sci-Fi.  Anyone who frequents HLP would know me as 'Scotty.'

Other than that, I can't think of anything interesting to say.

"Yea verily, though I charge through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for I am driving a house-sized mass of "**** you." Mammoth Tank Driver, Tiberium Wars.

Can we have flying tanks?

We've got a number of 'other linguists' in the checking pool - but feel free to chip in at any time!

Presumably a gent by the nickname of 'Foxbat' will drop by here sometime, he's a Catalyst Demo Team agent in France who runs Leviathans amongst his other games. Hopefully you two are somewhere in proximity.

(Btw, is the term "L'Hexagone" still used do describe France?)

Hi, I'm just a guy who discovered this game back in early 2009 in Catalyst's Wikipedia article. A few weeks later I Googled "Catalyst" and "Leviathans" and I found the early MiTS site in all its blue and white Wordpress glory. This is probably the first miniatures game I'm actually considering of getting ever since abandoning my $200 money sink called 40K back when I was 14. Along with all this Edwardian steampunk goodness I have an interest into 1980s armies, armored warfare and down-to-earth mecha anime like Patlabor.

All righty then !

Just all the time^^, but mostly by journalists(used as synonym to prevent repetitions of "France" or "the country") not really by the common people.
